Feria Internacional de Muestras de Barcelona Philips was the promoter of first test broadcasts in Spain during the Barcelona’s Official International Trade Fair in 1948.
María de los Ángeles Morales, one of the most famous singers in Spain in the 1940s and 1950s, sang the madness aria from Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor to inaugurate this pioneering television experiment, bringing the fair to a standstill. The soprano’s live performance, watched on those early sets, marked the starting point of the history of commercial television in Spain. Eight years later, in 1956, regular TV broadcasts were officially launched in Spain with the creation of TVE. Barcelonans christened the 1948 edition of the Trade Fair as the ‘TV trade fair’.

The humanoid robot Sophia travelled to Spain for the first time to visit the IoT Solutions World Congress and take part as a panellist on two round table of a forum about blockchain. Sophia and other experts discussed the exciting future for humanity augured by the convergence of emerging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing and the Internet of Things.
Volunteer Hurricane Pet Assistance On September 2nd, Sho-Link team members Rene Sandoval and Samuel Alacala from San Antonio helped in transporting 34 dogs from a Texas animal shelter to Austin Airport. Rene and Sam gave up their Saturday to drive from San Antonio to Austin with van and trailer to assist in shuttling the dogs and picking up pallets of dog food for the local shelter.
This opportunity was presented by Pura Naturals Pet and Exhibitree. Pura Naturals Pet worked on the pet rescue efforts in Houston with 2 of the main charities they sponsor, the ASPCA and Karma Rescue.
4 of the dogs placed on the plane were hand selected for Karma Rescue’s incredible Paws for Life program. This program takes rescue dogs and places them with inmates that train them for 4 months, learning up to 60 different commands. Upon graduation, these dogs are gifted to U.S. Vets suffering from PTSD.
Gender diversity is important for the mining sector and we were honoured to International Women in Mining (IWiM) Founder Barbara speak on women in mining at our inaugural event in London to an audience of miners and investors.
Feria Valencia's Hundredth Anniversary Celebration King Felipe VI presided over the commemoration of Feria Valencia’s centenary at a major event held at the exhibition venue’s Events Centre. The King was accompanied by the President of the Regional Government, Ximo Puig, the Minister for Energy, Álvaro Nadal, the Mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó and the Chairman of Feria Valencia’s Executive Committee, José Vicente González.
In his address the Monarch emphasised the point that Spain’s exhibition centres are “the cornerstones of sales promotion as they make the very most of the mechanisms and instruments that have emerged from the revolution in technology and from globalisation”. He also talked about the great value of the “human dimension and personal, face to face contact” that trade fairs provide and that technology “cannot replace.” “Exhibitions are unique events that are difficult to substitute with anything else”, he remarked.

We turned the event into a collection center for food donations for the affected areas and invited people to join in this action.
That year was our tenth anniversary and we allocated the party’s budget to the purchase of food.
With the help of visitors and exhibitors, we managed to raise more than 8 tons that were destined for a town in Oxaca that had been devastated.
The event was a success and the secret was our team, of which I am proud and would like to share with you.

JIMTOF is one of the biggest machine tool fairs in the world and the UFI approved international event. It has been praised highly both domestically and internationally since the first time in 1962. In JIMTOF2018, an IoT platform was used to connect 292 machines of 72 companies and the exhibition booths to display their operational status, and other information, live on a large monitor, turning the venue into one huge simulated “Connected Industries Factory.” The same image was also displayed on desktop PCs, allowing images of the machines and their operational status to be displayed by clicking on the displayed machines using a mouse.

Although Alimentaria in itself is a compendium of new products, Innoval is the place at the show to find the latest launches in the food industry and serves as a barometer of trends.
Granja Campomayor and its egg cooked at low temperature were the big winners of Innoval Awards at Alimentaria 2018. It is an egg already cooked inside its own shell that is thermally regenerated when boiled or baked. And this achieves a solidified egg white, with a creamy look and a liquid and creamy yolk. On cutting the egg, the yolk oozes out slowly, providing it with an inimitable flavour and texture. It is a very healthy, natural egg, as it is cooked with no oils.

In september 2019, Messe Frankfurt Argentina carried out once again the International Oil & Gas Exhibition (AOG Expo) in Buenos Aires, an event organized by the Argentine Oil and Gas Institute (IAPG). Industrial Transformation ASIA-PACIFIC At Industrial Transformation ASIA-PACIFIC, industry stakeholders analysed and determined that robotics will play larger roles accompanying industrial automation. SingEx thus curated a new Robotic Experimental Zone, in collaboration with Singapore Industrial Automation Association, to feature innovative robotics display and interactive exhibits for use in the manufacturing and logistics space. International Book Fair in Krakow When in 2019 information about the award of the Polish author Olga Tokarczuk to the Nobel Prize for Literature spread around the world, a wave of euphoria has also reached the International Book Fair in Krakow®.
On the second day of the trade fair, the book of congratulations, created for the Nobel Prize laureate by the organizers and the readers, was almost full. The number of people willing to take part in the joint video, which has intended to reveal great joy of hearing the verdict of the Swedish Academy, exceeded the organizers’ wildest expectations. Younger and older, in groups or individually, proudly affixed “#iamsohappy Nobel Prize to Olga Tokarczuk” stickers and boldly stood in front of the camera.
At that moment we couldn’t help thinking that reading really can change people attitude, open minds and souls to the importance of being in community.
Decorex International Decorex International introduced Design Encounter last year, a cutting-edge platform for the interior design industry to showcase products in a unique and innovative hybrid A/R experience.
Design Encounter was a series of interconnecting physical roomsets, a collaboration with a famed architect and students from Central St Martins, London. The installation took visitors through the interconnected rooms, highlighting products in each of them from over 200 suppliers. The experience was enhanced by an app using augmented reality which was available to download pre-show. By placing the phone camera directly in front of the physical products, visitors were able to access extra information on the designers, products and suppliers, while ‘liking’ them allowed them to log their preferences and access a list of their preferred products post-show. The introduction of augmented reality was met with success and will be developed further for this show and others, particularly as we move into a post-COVID era.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show did an economic impact study as part of their 60th anniversary celebration in October 2019. The study showed that FLIBS has brought over $1.3 billion in economic impact for the state of Florida, more than any Super Bowl. The last report, done in 2015, showed that the economic impact at that time was $857 million, meaning that FLIBS brought $443 million of revenue to the state of Florida in just the last 4 years. FLIBS is the largest in-water boat show in the world.
Phil Purcell, CEO of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida said, “Not only does the show have a bigger economic impact than any Superbowl, FLIBS sustains the $12 billion South Florida marine industry and its 142,000 jobs for the remaining 360 days of the year.”
Other highlights in the study include:
• sales and excise taxes of $69 million in Florida, with $20.7 million occurring in Broward County (up from $51.2 million in taxes, with $16.9 million in Broward County)
• 61% of nearly 100,000 visitors came from outside the region, 49% were from outside Florida, and 10% were from outside the U.S. (up from 58%, 54%, and 10%, respectively)
• visitors spent an average of $226 per day and were responsible for more than 72,000 room nights in local hotels (up from an average of $208 per day and 69,000 room nights)
• more than 8,000 full-time jobs are associated with the show and exhibitors expended $13.1 million in exhibit space and local goods and services (up from 6,000 jobs and $12.9 million in exhibitor expenditures)
• More than 200 vessels of 80’ or greater were displayed

ACE 2019 At the 2019 AWWA ACE exhibition, our company, Hach, was able to do a soft product launch for our new product, the CL17sc, and with this product launch we created a competition for people to see how quickly they could change the “tubing” in the new product. The old product, CL17, could take up to one hour to change and our fastest time on the new CL17sc was 15 seconds! Each person who participated received a water bottle and the individual who won the overall leadership board one a CL17sc. It was incredibly fun to watch people change out the tubing and come back again and again to try for a faster time. It also helped to support initial interest in the new product and created ~50 leads.

Sixty exhibitors joined the American Society for Nutrition in launching a what became the world’s largest ever nutrition meeting 60 days after the cancellation of NUTRITION 2020 in Seattle due to COVID-19. The new virtual meeting, NUTRITION 2020 LIVE ONLINE, was offered at no charge due to support of the ASN Foundation. ASN went forward with the new meeting to ensure the dissemination of nutrition science in support of ASN’s vision of a healthier world through evidence-based nutrition. Registration topped 29,000 nutrition professionals from 150 countries, an 800% increase over the in person meeting. NUTRITION 2020 LIVE ONLINE remained open for 30 days following the live event. ASN celebrates the individuals and organizations who made this possible!
Dubai International Pharmaceuticals and Technologies Conference and Exhibition – DUPHAT, is the biggest pharmaceutical event in the Middle East North Africa region. It was held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center, and attracted over 33,000 visitors and participants from 75 countries around the world. DUPHAT conference witnessed the presence of 156 speakers from the region and across the globe, in addition to featuring 171 scientific sessions, 840 poster presentations, and 22 workshops. DUPHAT 2020 exhibition included 790 participating brands from across the region and the world.
Emirates Plastic Surgery Congress Emirates Plastic Surgery Congress-EPSC, was held at the Raffles Dubai and attracted more than 500 visitors and participants from 25 countries. The conference featured 130 scientific sessions and 6 workshops, while the exhibition witnessed the participation of more than 20 top brands and companies representing the Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery departments.

montECOlino RECYCLING CARPET
Montecolino has developed a carpet management system for Fiera Milano where they have obtained the certificate of 100% recyclability of their products. After the exhibition or the event, the products are turned into new plastic products. Stop to the dumps for a sustainable future in the fair sector, following the concept of circular economy as defined by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
For this project Montecolino has developed a carpet management system for Fiera Milano. At the show ground are over 1,5 million m2 of carpet installed per year. The developed system allows to install over 80.000 m2 and the removal of over 120.000 m2 in a working-night. The activity of carpet removal begins immediately after the end of the show before the stand builders begin to dismantle the booths. The carpet is picked up taking care to turn it upside-down to remove foreign matters. The carpet is folded up and grouped in specific points of the halls. The delivery to the pressing center takes place in the same night of the show ending. The material is compacted before the delivery to the recycling facilities in order to reduce freight cost. The collected material is compacted for
reducing the volume of transport and it is worked in a ray of 100 kms by the fair site to be turned into PP granulate that will be transferred to the plastic industry as raw material.

MEM Industrial launched its first edition of Makathon Makers for Good, an iniciative to showcase new talents in the woodworking industry.
The Makathon Makers for Good @ MEM Industrial was aimed at artists, designers, engineers and creatives from different disciplines who generated furniture proposals using 3D modeling and digital manufacturing. 14 finalists participated, who received a training program conceived by Asia Robotics, Fablab Impact, Fablab DF, Hettich, Tecnotabla and SolidWorks, through its authorized distributor Digital Design and Manufacturing (DMD). Likewise, all the finalists had the opportunity to visit the Tecnotabla plant in Tabasco.
The finalist projects of the Makathon Makers for Good @ MEM Industrial were exhibited during MEM Industrial 2020. The three winners were:
The first place was awarded to “En la Lagu”, by Paola Montaño and Iván Chávez, who won a trip to Germany to see the Hettich plant.
The second place went to GARI, by Susana García and Daniela Rioja, who won a trip to Jalisco to see the Asia Robotic plant and travel on the Tequila Express.
Third place was won by WUD, from Maura and María Morfín, who won a Wacom design tablet by Solid Works.
MRO Americas This year, MRO Americas celebrated 25 years serving the aviation industry. The event, which initially anticipated 25 exhibitors and 350 conference attendees focused on airline maintenance, repair and overhaul, had 70 exhibitors and 500 attendees in it’s inaugural year. The International Surface Event The International Surface Event (TISE) has served over 30 years, providing endless opportunities for growth and expansion for the flooring, stone and tile community.
Over the past ten years, TISE has organized and provided over $300K to charitable organizations. One such organization is the Floor Covering Industry Foundation (FCIF), an organization whose mission is to get families back on their feet when battling catastrophic injuries, severe disabilities, or other life-altering medical crises. TISE hosts the FCIF advisory board annually at the event.
TISE also serves as an anchor during industry crisis. Starting in 2016, the industry began to feel the effects of a flooring professional shortage, selling more products than could be professionally installed. TISE hosted the first ever Installation Summit in 2016, supported an Installer Crisis Industry Research Study, and brought back the annual National Installer of the Year Competition. In addition, TISE has helped produce a standalone event called Build My Future: Flooring Edition, an event introducing high school students to careers as installers in the surface industry.
TISE also works each year to give valuable resources to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, A New Day, and Opportunity Village, right off of the show floor. A collaborative effort between the event service provider, the event exhibitors, and the TISE event staff has ended in donations of 8 to 10 large box trucks each year of the newest and most beautiful flooring, stone, and tile products going to people in need for their homes.
