The First UFI Americas Conference United Industry Leaders in Monterrey

Over 170 industry leaders and stakeholders from across the Americas and beyond gathered in Monterrey for the 2024 UFI Americas Conference. Organised by UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and hosted by the Monterrey Convention & Visitors Bureau (OCV) at Cintermex, the conference spanned three days. It was filled with dynamic sessions, networking opportunities, and a chance to explore Monterrey’s vibrant culture and landscapes.

Bringing the Americas Together

For the first time, UFI brought together members and industry leaders from North, Central, and South America in a combined event, creating a unique platform to share regional insights and updates. Sessions and discussions were conducted in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, addressing key trends and innovations in the global exhibition and events sector.

Key Industry Insights

The conference featured a range of distinguished speakers who shared their expertise on the latest developments in the exhibition industry. Fernando Fisher, CEO of RX USA, introduced the “exhibitor last mile” concept, emphasizing the need to support new exhibitors through fair pricing, strategic location choices, and tailored solutions to enhance their success. Rodolfo Andrade, General Director of Anhembi District in São Paulo, Brazil, discussed innovative strategies for optimizing venue spaces to increase flexibility and appeal.

Sustainability was a central theme at the conference. A dedicated session brought together industry leaders to view sustainability as an inspirational challenge and to discuss practical steps to reduce the environmental impact of exhibitions. This session underscored the industry’s commitment to sustainable practices and highlighted innovative approaches to making events more environmentally friendly.

Fostering Collaboration and Networking

The UFI Americas Conference also provided a valuable platform for collaboration among industry associations. Within the framework of the UFI Associations Committee, regional associations met to align their efforts on advocacy, education, and other initiatives to benefit the exhibition sector. Additionally, members of AMPROFEC held a special meeting to discuss their ongoing projects and future plans.

Networking was a key component of the conference, with numerous opportunities for delegates to connect and exchange ideas. Delegates also had the chance to experience Monterrey’s unique offerings through two special tours: an excursion to San Pedro Garza and the scenic La Huasteca Canyon, and a city tour from Parque Fundidora to Downtown Monterrey. These tours not only showcased the city’s rich history and culture but also provided a backdrop for meaningful interactions and connections among industry peers.

Monterrey Showcases Its Strengths

The conference was a significant event for Monterrey, bringing together key players from the exhibition industry and providing a platform to showcase the city’s strengths. David Manllo Valdés, Director of the Monterrey Convention & Visitors Bureau, highlighted the significance of the event for the city. He emphasized that it was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Monterrey’s capabilities as a host city, including its modern infrastructure, vibrant culture, and unique tourist attractions. The event’s success was a testament to the city’s ability to host international events of this caliber.

Looking Forward

UFI continues to play a pivotal role in the global exhibition industry by organizing annual regional conferences in the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East & Africa, as well as the UFI Global Congress. The next major event is the 91st UFI Global Congress in Cologne, Germany, from November 20-23.

By bringing together industry leaders from across the region and beyond, the 2024 UFI Americas Conference in Monterrey has set a new standard for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation in the exhibition industry. As the industry continues to evolve, events like these provide essential opportunities for growth and development, ensuring a bright future for exhibitions worldwide.
